I want to extend my sincere congratulations to Maria Panyi and Andrey Geva on their well-deserved election to the USA Fencing Board of Directors as at-large directors. These two exceptional individuals are well-positioned to lead our sport into the future, and I am confident that they will make significant contributions to the growth and success of USA Fencing.
Andrey Geva is not only an outstanding coach and mentor but also a close personal friend. Over the years, we have shared countless conversations about our passion for fencing and our vision for the sport’s growth and development. Andrey’s dedication to promoting fencing at all levels, from grassroots to elite, is truly inspiring. His experience as a former U.S. National Coach and founder of Alliance Fencing Academy in Houston, as well as his success in coaching the U.S. Women’s Epee Team at the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games, speaks volumes about his expertise and commitment to the sport. I am confident that Andrey will bring his wealth of knowledge, innovative ideas, and unwavering passion to his role on the board.
Maria Panyi, whom I have worked with at competitions and keep in the highest regard, is another outstanding addition to the board. Her background as a former Hungarian national team member, collegiate competitor at Notre Dame, and her expertise in economics and computer science make her uniquely qualified to address the challenges facing USA Fencing. Maria’s focus on improving financial management, succession planning, and support for parafencing and Veteran fencing demonstrates her deep understanding of the needs of our community.
The election of Maria and Andrey, along with the other recently elected at-large directors – Damien Lehfeldt, Abdel Salem, and Molly Hill (who replaced Ivan Lee following his resignation) – is a testament to the engagement and commitment of our membership. The high level of participation in the election process shows that our community cares deeply about the future of fencing and is willing to take an active role in shaping it. This diverse and talented group of individuals, elected by the membership over the past two years, brings a wealth of experience and fresh perspectives to the board.
I am also confident that the USA Fencing National Office, under the leadership of CEO Phil Andrews, is well-positioned to work alongside the board to take our organization to new heights. The collaborative efforts of the board and the National Office will be crucial in addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, ensuring that USA Fencing remains at the forefront of the global fencing community.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of the election process and to have engaged with so many passionate members of our community. I will continue to support Maria, Andrey, and the entire board in any way possible as we work together to promote and grow the sport of fencing across the United States.
Once again, congratulations to Maria Panyi and Andrey Geva on their election to the USA Fencing Board of Directors. I am excited to see the positive impact they will have on our sport and organization in the years to come.
